The M821A1 is a US, high fragmentation steel (HF-1)-bodied, 81 mm high explosive fragmentation (HE-frag) mortar round, which is known as a cartridge in US terminology. The M821A1 is based on the M821, but uses a different fragmenting body material, and is filled with a different high explosive.
