M178

Mine
Chile

The M178 is a large pressure-actuated AP mine. This mine was formerly in service with the Chilean Armed Forces, however is now obsolete. When sufficient force is exerted to the lid of the mine, the plunger depresses the plate, extracting the striker retaining pin. The spring-loaded striker is then released onto the detonator assembly to initiate the booster and main charge. The M178 is likely to be effective against light vehicles.
