The SZ-3a (СЗ-3а) is a metal-cased demolition charge, essentially a shortened version of the SZ-6 (СЗ-6). The SZ part of the designation is short for 'Sosredotochennyye Zaryady' (Сосредоточенные Заряды), which quite literally means 'concentrated charge', whilst the '3' refers to the nominal weight of the charge in kilograms.
