The M72 was a small, nominally 23 lb (10.4 kg), parachute-retarded, high explosive fragmentation (HE-frag) bomb. The M72 is essentially the original-format M40 (AN-M40) parachute-retarded HE-frag bomb, reissued and redesignated.
