New People's Army rebels ambushed a team of Marines on a security patrol in the vicinity of Sitio Tinagdanan, Barangay Hinalaan, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat on March 17 or March 20 (reports are unclear about the actual events date). One Marine was killed and eight others wounded. Six NPA rebels were killed when the Marines subjected Barangay Hinalaan to artillery fire. NPA claims it killed 7 Marines and did not suffer losses themselves.
