On May 8, a GATIA vehicle was struck by an IED on the road between Djebock and Ahina, one GATIA militiaman was killed in the explosion and two other severely wounded. The IED was presumably carried out by Katiba Salaheddine militants. Sultan Ould Bady's Katiba Salah Eddine defected from JNIM's Katiba Macina to the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara led by Adnan Abu Walid al-Sahrawi in February 2018.
