An source of radiation was detected in a load of scrap metal being sent to NUCOR Steel in TX from Southern Scrap in LA before the load left the the Southern Scrap yard. The source was later determined to be CS137 rod source. American Radiation Services (ARS) was contacted to determine isotope/activity of the source and to ensure its safe transportation/disposal. The origin and owner of the source could not be determined. ARS contacted QSA Global in Baton Rouge, LA to dispose of the source, and QSA Global assumed possession of the source on 7 June, 2013.
