An employee of Evonik Corporation discovered a gas chromatograph containing an NI63 electron capture device while cleaning out an attic storage space acquired from their business partner, Philco International. The device contained 15 mCi NI63 and was manufactured by Perkin Elmer in 1993. The device was originally sold to InterMedics from Angleton, Texas, however in 1998 the company Guidant bought out InterMedics, closing the facility in 1999. After the closure, the fate of the device was . Evonik Corporation will be contracting out the disposal of the device.
