On 16 October 2021, an IED by Al Shabaab militants detonated, targeting government officials and soldiers in a teashop within the Belet Weyne Police Station compound in Belet Weyne town (Belet Weyne, Hiraan). The mayor of Feerfeer and the female owner of the teashop were killed. Three people were injured, including Belet Weyne Police Chief and the District commissioner of Feerfee.
