On October 29, 2026, Security Forces (SFs) recovered and destroyed two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), locally known as can bombs, buried underground near Bahruda village in Saranda Forest under Chhotanagra Police Station limits in West Singhbhum District, Jharkhand, during a joint anti-Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) operation, reports The New Indian Express on October 30. The operation involved personnel from the 193rd Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jharkhand Police. During the search, personnel noticed suspicious activity along a trail near the Koina River, close to Bahda village. A subsequent search led to the discovery of two landmines buried underground. According to the police, the explosives were suspected to have been planted by Maoists to target patrolling security personnel. The devices were subsequently destroyed through controlled detonations in accordance with safety protocols. West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Renu confirmed the recovery and destruction. Police officials noted that concealed explosives continue to pose a threat in the Saranda region, not only to security personnel conducting anti-Maoist operations but also to tribal villagers collecting forest produce, cattle herders and wildlife, which could inadvertently encounter the devices. The operation forms part of continuing efforts to detect and neutralise explosives concealed in forest areas and reduce the risks posed by Maoist activity.
