12 people, including a doctor, killed after NUG civilian hospital in Kawlin is bombed from the air

Miro, November 5, Kawlin

According to local residents, 12 people, including a doctor and healthcare workers, were killed after junta forces carried out an aerial bombing attack on a civilian hospital of the National Unity Government (NUG) in Kawlin Township, Sagaing Region.

At about 7:00 p.m. on November 4, a fighter aircraft bombed the hospital located between Pe Pin Chaung and Hlyaw Phyu Kone villages near the Shwebo-Myitkyina strategic highway in the southeastern part of Kawlin Township.

As a result of the airstrike, 35-year-old physician Dr. Zar Ni Htun, also known as Dr. Pwar Gyi, five healthcare workers including a 20-year-old trainee staff member, and civilians were killed instantly. Displaced persons and local patients who were receiving treatment at the hospital were also injured.

A local man said: “When the aircraft came, people ran and hid in the bomb shelter, but the bomb fell directly on top of the shelter. Including the doctor, they were all killed together there. The doctor had been continuously providing medical treatment to the public. This is a major loss for the people of the Kawlin area and for the revolution.”

The late Dr. Zar Ni Htun had been providing medical treatment to people throughout the eastern part of Kawlin as well as nearby townships, and was someone upon whom local residents relied.

Kawlin Township is controlled by the People's Defence Force (PDF) and allied revolutionary forces, and currently the military is conducting offensives with aerial support.

In addition, military tensions remain high in nearby Indaw and Mawlu towns, and aerial attacks are reportedly continuing there as well.
