UAV event in Vaslui County, Viișoara area, Romania on Tue 1st September 2026

A damaged drone was discovered on Tuesday, September 1, in a field in Vaslui County. The device was found in the outskirts of Viișoara commune, and authorities immediately intervened to secure the area and check the object. 

According to the Vaslui County Police Inspectorate, the police were notified at around 10:15 by a local resident who noticed the crashed aircraft on agricultural land. The area is located approximately 30 kilometers from the border with the Republic of Moldova. In fact, drones have become a common thing on Romanian territory in recent times.

After receiving the report, police and gendarmes cordoned off the area so that the object could be safely inspected. Specialized teams were sent to the scene to determine the nature of the device and any potential risks.

The incident was also reported to the Romanian Intelligence Service. At the same time, the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Iași Court of Appeal was notified, which will coordinate the investigations into the circumstances in which the drone arrived on the territory of Vaslui County.

A team from the Anti-Terrorist Brigade also arrived at the scene of the discovery, conducting checks on the device. At this time, authorities are trying to determine the origin of the drone, the route it followed, and the moment it crashed.

For now, there is no official information confirming the origin of the device or whether it has any connection to military activities. Authorities are to determine these aspects following technical checks.

The discovery takes place in an area relatively close to Romania's border with the Republic of Moldova, in a regional context in which Romanian authorities are carefully monitoring incidents involving drones and other flying devices near the borders.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are expected to provide additional information after the initial checks are completed.
