Mizzima. Three children were killed and 10 people were injured when the military junta carried out an aerial bombing attack yesterday (October 31) on a displacement site located in the eastern part of Loikaw Township, Karenni State, according to the Interim Executive Council (IEC) of Karenni State.

The deceased were one male student and two female students of Grade 4 and Grade 5 age. Two female teachers and eight students were injured, IEC Secretary-2 Ko Banyar told Mizzima today (November 1).

He said that one of the injured sustained life-threatening injuries.

The military junta carried out the bombing attack using fighter jets and a Y-12 aircraft, and the attack also destroyed a school for displaced children.

Ko Banyar said the bombing occurred while children at the displacement school were preparing to eat lunch.

"We are deeply saddened by this. The reason is that it happened at a place where children were attending school. We all regard schools as the safest places. What happened can be described as a deliberate and truly inhumane act. It was not an accidental strike made once by mistake. They intentionally circled two or three times with fighter jets and dropped bombs. After that, the Y-12 also circled many times before dropping bombs. Therefore, we are extremely saddened both by the children's deaths and injuries and by the psychological trauma they have suffered," he said.

The military junta has been conducting aerial bombing attacks even in areas of Karenni State where no fighting is taking place, resulting in casualties among local residents and displaced persons.

According to data from the Karenni Human Rights Group (KnHRG), during September alone in Karenni State, the military junta conducted 10 airstrikes and 17 drone attacks. As a result of those attacks, 14 people were killed and more than 40 others were injured.
