On October 27, 2026, Gadchiroli Police and C-60 commandos recovered firearms, explosives and other Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) material, including 100 crude bombs, from Machuvanchha Forest under Wangeturi Police Station limits in Gadchiroli District, near the Maharashtra–Chhattisgarh border, reports The Times of India. Acting on intelligence inputs that Maoists had concealed arms and explosives in the forest, the Police launched a joint search operation involving four teams of the C-60 special operations unit and a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS). The recovered items included one 12-bore rifle, three single-shot rifles, one air gun, a bottle containing explosive material, a live Claymore explosive, a wireless microphone set and five pairs of green cloth reportedly intended for Maoist uniforms. The Police also recovered 100 sutli bombs, described as crude explosive devices. Two explosives and other Maoist material were destroyed at the site under the supervision of senior personnel to eliminate potential risks. The available reports did not establish whether the cache was linked to a specific Maoist unit or individual. According to the Police, Maoists have exploited the dense forests and difficult terrain along the inter-state border to conceal weapons and explosives. The recovery follows an earlier discovery of an arms and explosives cache in the Koparshi Forest area of Gadchiroli this month. Search and combing operations were expected to continue in remote border areas to locate concealed caches and prevent their potential use in attacks.
