SAA event in Punjab, Jhite Kalan, Amritsar District area, India on Mon 26th October 2026

Tirath Singh, brother of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Karaj Singh, was allegedly shot dead and his friend, Ranjit Singh, injured in a shooting near a gurdwara in Jhite Kalan village, Amritsar District, on the night of October 26, reports The Tribune. According to police, the two were returning after paying obeisance at the gurdwara when the assailants fired seven to eight rounds before fleeing. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said four village residents—Gurdit Singh, Harkirat Singh, Gurjant Singh and Gora—had been booked, and raids were underway to arrest them. Police suspect an old enmity, alleging that Gurdit Singh held a grudge against Karaj Singh and his family. The two sides had reportedly clashed earlier, but villagers intervened to settle the dispute. Karaj Singh is a block samiti member, while his mother is the AAP-affiliated sarpanch (village head).
