Mizzima: In Hakha Township, Chin State, the military junta carried out an aerial bombing attack on a prisoner-of-war camp on the night of October 28, resulting in the deaths of 10 prisoners of war and injuries to five others, according to the chairman of the Chin Defence Force - Hakha (CDF-Hakha), who spoke to Mizzima.

It is understood that between 8:25 p.m. and 8:46 p.m. on October 28, approximately four fighter jets carried out five bombing runs.

According to the chairman of CDF-Hakha, the prison where the prisoners of war were being held was completely destroyed in the attack, but the revolutionary comrades serving as prison guards escaped unharmed and without injuries.

He said: “They came and bombed the place where the prisoners of war were being kept using jet fighters. A very large number of bombs were dropped, and the prison is beyond repair now. Ten prisoners of war were killed and five were injured. As for the prison guards, they escaped safely without any injuries.”

CDF-Hakha assessed that the attack struck the target accurately and that information may have been leaked recently, and previously, through prisoners who had been released.

Captain Zin Yaw, who participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), told Mizzima that the military junta regards surrendered prisoners of war as enemies and commonly seeks to eliminate them.

He said: “The military side is very clear. Once someone becomes a prisoner of war, they are considered an enemy. Once they surrender their weapons, they are no longer considered connected to them. Not only are they treated as if they are already dead, but they are also despised even more because they may provide information. That is why in places like Rakhine and Sagaing, we also see situations where they are being completely eliminated.”

The deceased prisoners of war were reportedly individuals captured at military checkpoints in and around Hakha town and were being detained together.

It is understood that on July 17, in Pyidaungtha Ward, Hakha, Lieutenant Colonel Zaw Zaw Aung, commander of Police Battalion No. 14, and his personal assistant were shot and killed by CDF-Hakha while on their way to work.

CDF-Hakha stated that the shooting was retaliation for the arrest and killing on March 23 of household heads U Htang Van Man, U Dot Hlei Sein, and U Htang Tin Lian by the police force based in Hakha.
