The bodies of two women found near Kaung Hmu Zin were allegedly women shot dead by PNO militia members
SSF, October 28, Taunggyi
Local news sources said that the bodies of two women found near Kaung Hmu Zin Village in Nan Haung Village Tract, Taunggyi Township, southern Shan State, were shot dead by members of the PNO militia force.
At the Yay Tha Pyay checkpoint in Ban Kwe Village, Nan Haung Village Tract, at 5:00 a.m. on October 26, two PNO personnel got into an argument. As a result, Private Khun Kyaw Thu Ra Min shot and killed Private Khun Nyunt Win with a firearm, took weapons with him, and fled.
Residents of Kaung Hmu Zin said that the fleeing Private Khun Kyaw Thu Ra Min subsequently shot dead Nan Aung Paw and Nan Hwam Nwe, who were near a field about two furlongs north of Kaung Hmu Zin Village.
A source familiar with the incident said:
“That fleeing soldier also shot dead two girls who were on their way to work in the fields. The younger one was shot in the forehead. The older one was sexually assaulted and then shot again with a gun. That is what the senior people said. Even from the documentary photographs we saw, it appeared that the older one's clothing had been pulled off.”
The claim that one of the two murdered girls was sexually assaulted before being killed is based only on statements from local residents, and has not yet been confirmed by doctors' medical examinations.
Inspection of photographs of the bodies sent by the source showed that the clothing of the girl in question was dishevelled and that her outer garments appeared to have been torn away.
In addition, a wound was observed on the girl's body where a bullet entered through the cheek and exited through the back of the head.
Another local resident said:
“The soldier who committed this act was the one who shot his colleague at the checkpoint and fled. The PNO member who was shot dead was reportedly someone serving a rotation shift. He was said to have been killed just before finishing his duty period and returning home. After the man who fled was captured by the PNO, they learned that he had raped and murdered the girls, and instead of tying him up, they immediately shot him dead on the spot.”
The source familiar with the incident continued, saying that a team led by Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Khaung from PNO Strategy 6 searched for Khun Kyaw Thu Ra Min, located him at approximately 7:30 p.m. on October 26, and shot him dead at the location where he was found.
According to initial reports, sources close to the Taunggyi Police Force stated that he was shot dead while being apprehended because he resisted arrest rather than surrendering peacefully.
Sources also said that the funerals of the two women who were killed by the PNO militia member were held today, October 28.
One local source said:
“They were treated unjustly. The funeral was held today. A lot of people accompanied them. The younger one, Hwam Nwe, was only 15 years old. She was also a rare child who loved playing football.”
The police force under the State Administration Council is separately investigating both incidents, but has not yet announced who shot and killed the two women.
Sources also said that the PNO militia under the State Administration Council has threatened local residents not to post information about the killings of the two women online.
The shooting incidents occurred within what the PNO militia refers to as the Myint Mo Region Military Area, and the only armed group operating within Nan Haung Village Tract is the PNO militia under the State Administration Council.
