Two killed in shooting between PNO militia members under the military council; two additional female bodies found after clearance operations related to the case

SSF, October 27, Taunggyi

According to sources, a shooting incident occurred between members of the PNO militia under the military council at the Yethapyay checkpoint in Taunggyi Township, southern Shan State, resulting in the deaths of two people.

At the Yethapyay checkpoint in Ban Kwe Village, Nan Haung Village Tract, Taunggyi Township, two PNO personnel got into an argument at around 5:00 a.m. on October 26. During the dispute, Private Khun Kyaw Thu Ya Min shot and killed Private Khun Nyunt Win with a firearm, then took a weapon and fled.

A team led by Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Khaung from PNO Strategy 6 searched for the fleeing Khun Kyaw Thu Ya Min. Although they located him at around 7:30 p.m. on October 26, he refused to surrender, fired back, and resisted arrest, so he was shot dead, according to a source familiar with the incident.

“Two people died. After he shot the other man and fled with a weapon, they shot him dead. That checkpoint is a checkpoint that extorts money. This time, too, they were drinking alcohol together, got into an argument, and then one of them suddenly opened fire with a gun, according to their captain,” a local source familiar with the incident said.

In addition, during area-clearance operations carried out by the PNO and police in connection with the incident, the bodies of two young women who had died from gunshot wounds were discovered beside a footpath near a field approximately two furlongs north of Kaungmu Sin Village, Nan Haung Village Tract, according to a source.

“Yes, the two deceased girls were from our village. Their names were Nan Aung Paw and Nan Hwam Nwe. Nan Aung Paw was 19 years old and Nan Hwam Nwe was 15 years old,” said a local source from Kaungmu Sin Village.

The source also said that both women died after being shot in the head.

A source close to the military council police said that the police have opened separate cases regarding the two incidents and are conducting investigations, but it is not yet known who shot and killed the two women.

This shooting incident occurred within what the PNO militia refers to as the Myint Moe Taing Military Region, and the only armed group operating within Nan Haung Village Tract is the PNO militia under the military council.
