COTABATO CITY— Four men traveling together in a silver car were killed in an ambush on Monday afternoon, October 26, along a highway in an interior area of Barangay Tulunan, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Maguindanao del Sur.

Local executives in Datu Anggal and Col. John Mangahis, director of the Maguindanao del Sur Provincial Police Office, separately told reporters that the four victims, who died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds, were most likely, not residents of any of the province's 22 municipalities.

Maguindanao del Sur is one of the five provinces in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Investigators from the Datu Anggal Municipal Police Station and barangay officials who responded to the incident were still trying to identify the four victims as of 4 p.m. Monday.

Officials of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and the Army’s 6th Infantry Division are coordinating efforts to identify the victims.

Brig. Gen. Edgar Catu, commander of the 6th ID, said Army intelligence personnel are helping police determine who was responsible for the attack.
