20th October 2026
Twelve people, including a soldier, were killed and around 10 others injured in an armed attack on two passenger buses along the Arlit-Agadez road in northern Niger on Tuesday, local authorities said Wednesday.
"We deeply regret the tragic loss of life, including that of innocent women and children," said Ibra Boulama Issa, governor of the Agadez region.
According to local media, armed men traveling in three vehicles intercepted the two buses, about 35 km from Agadez, opening fire on the passengers.
The regional authorities said the attack may have been linked to the transportation of gold on one of the buses. An investigation has been launched to track down the attackers and determine the circumstances of the incident.
