In Sagaing Region's Homalin Township, two bases occupied by the Shan Ni Nationalities Army (SNA), which is subordinate to the military junta, were captured by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied forces, according to a frontline source.

Those bases were located in Taung Oo Village Tract and Ta May Put Village, and were captured on 18 and 19 October.

A Kachin frontline source said:

“They were able to capture them on the night of the 19th. The final clearing was completed on the 20th. Fighting has resumed on this side and has been going on for quite a few days now. At present, the fighting remains intense. Yes, it is on the other side of Hpakant-Se Zin. Around the Sagaing-Kachin border.”

It is said that fighting between the two sides remains intense, and that the military junta forces have also been carrying out aerial bombing attacks. The KIA allied forces are reportedly continuing offensive operations against the SNA base at Thei Zalauk Village, resulting in heavy fighting.

A local resident said that fighting has been intensifying again for nearly a week in villages along the Uru Creek (Uru Chaung) on the border between Homalin Township, Sagaing Region, and Hpakant Township, Kachin State.

“The villages that the KIA has now captured, Ta May Put and Taung Oo, and then Thei Zalauk, are all located along the Uru Creek. On the opposite side is the Hpakant-Se Zin area. Fighting has been taking place there for more than a week. The military has also been carrying out continuous air attacks. On this side, the villages of Ta Ma Khan, Se Zin, and Haung Pa are also having to stay alert for air attacks.”

The military is reportedly carrying out airstrikes every day against the villages where fighting is occurring, and in the early morning of 20 October it also bombed Ta May Put Village.

Local residents said that on 19 October, the military also bombed Tet Hket Village in Homalin Township, resulting in the death of one civilian.

Since the military coup, the SNA has been a force that has participated in military operations in line with the wishes of the military, and the military has increasingly used large numbers of Shan Ni militias in the Kachin conflict.

The Se Zin Village area was captured by the KIA coalition in 2024, and because the SNA and pro-military militias have been attempting to retake it, KIA allied forces have been conducting offensive attacks against SNA positions in Homalin Township since early October.
