Ten people, including nine Myanmar nationals, arrested in Phop Phra Town with hand grenades, improvised bombs, and narcotics

Yangon, October 19

According to Thai news reports, a joint Thai security force conducted a surprise raid and search of a rental house in Phop Phra Town, Tak Province, on the Thai-Myanmar border, and arrested a total of 10 people, including nine Myanmar nationals, along with a Myanmar-made military hand grenade, an improvised bomb, and narcotics.

At approximately 6:00 a.m. today, October 19, a joint task force led by the Ratchamanu Special Task Force and comprising Infantry Company No. 1431, Special Task Force No. 31, Phop Phra Police Station, Border Patrol Police Company No. 346, and the Phop Phra Township Administrative Organization, surrounded and searched a rental house located in Ward No. 3 of South Phop Phra Village, Phop Phra Township.

During the search, officers seized one Myanmar-made MG-1 military hand grenade that had been concealed among piles of clothing inside the house. They also seized one improvised explosive device (homemade bomb) hidden inside an old vehicle tyre outside the house, as well as 30 methamphetamine tablets.

Together with the narcotics and explosive materials, authorities arrested a total of 10 people at the scene: nine Myanmar male nationals aged between 20 and 44, and one 32-year-old Thai national.

At present, all 10 suspects and all seized evidence have been transferred to Phop Phra Police Station, and legal proceedings are continuing under the Arms Act, Explosives Act, Narcotics Act, and Immigration Act.
