Casualties reported after an airstrike in Myaung Township despite there being no fighting

Local residents told Shwe Phee Myay that the military carried out an air attack in Myaung Township, Sagaing Region, last night despite there being no fighting in the area.

At around 7:20 p.m. on 16 October, fighter jets and suicide drones carried out airstrikes targeting at least three villages.

A resident of Nabet Village said:

"We heard the aircraft and were able to hide quickly, so there were not many casualties. It seemed they were targeting the monasteries. The bombs fell only around the monasteries. They were all 500-pound bombs. After the fighter jets had finished, suicide drones came in and dropped more bombs."

The attacks targeted Tamasekan, Mankyikan, and Nabet villages. Local residents confirmed that an airstrike damaged one civilian vehicle and injured one person.

A frontline source monitoring air activity in Myaung Township said that the fighter jet flew from Wetlet Township, through Ayadaw, Budalin, Kani, and Pale, then across the Magway Region townships of Salin, Myaing, and Pauk, before finally reaching Myaung Township, where it carried out the bombing attack.

A local woman said that while the airstrike was taking place, artillery was also fired from Yesagyo Town toward Nabet and Tamasekan villages at least four times using howitzers.
