Initial reports indicate that six civilians have been killed following an airstrike by the Myanmar military junta on a busy cargo site in the Chaungson area of Paletwa Township, Chin State, a territory currently under the control of the Arakan Army (AA).

The attack occurred yesterday, October 18, at approximately 10:00 AM.

The targeted site, located at the confluence of streams in the upper reaches of the Lemro River near the junction of Paletwa, Matupi, and Mindat townships, was struck by two jet fighters from the Tada-U Air Base and a Y-12 transport aircraft from the Magway Air Base.

Preliminary information suggests that the six deceased civilians were actively engaged in trade and cargo operations at the hub when the bombing commenced. Several others sustained injuries during the raid. Narinjara is currently working to gather further details, including the names and ages of those killed and injured.

U Myat Tun of the Arakan Human Rights Defenders Group told Narinjara that the Myanmar military remains one of the world’s most brutal regimes, perpetrating relentless acts of violence, amounting to a daily commission of genocide against ethnic minorities, without any intervention from major regional powers, including China.

This deadly strike follows a pattern of intensifying aerial bombardments in the region:

August 11 (7:30 AM): A junta jet fighter dropped bombs near the entrance sign to Paletwa town, injuring two schoolgirls.

August 12 (Nighttime): Jet fighters bombed Sami town in Paletwa Township, killing one civilian woman and wounding nine others.

August 26 (4:00 PM): The military junta conducted an airstrike on Mee Zar village in Paletwa Township, killing a mother and her child, and leaving six others injured.
