Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC) Secretary-2 U Banyar has confirmed that two houses were damaged after the military carried out a drone bombing attack on the eastern part of Hpruso Township, Karenni State.

It is understood that the houses were damaged after four bombs were dropped by drone into a village in eastern Hpruso at around 3:00 PM on 18 October.

IEC Secretary-2 U Banyar said: “They dropped the bombs into the village. They came and dropped them on the side of Kae Lar Township, so houses were damaged. There were no civilian casualties. In recent days they have been continuously carrying out bomb drops. There have been drone attacks across Demoso, near Pekhon, and on Moebye and Nan Mae Khon, where military tensions are ongoing.”

It is understood that the military has been bombing areas in and around Moebye Township, where military tensions are ongoing, almost daily by airstrikes, heavy weapons, and drones. It is also understood that it frequently carries out drone bombings and aerial bombardments in Hpruso Township and Demoso Township, where no fighting is taking place.

A displaced woman said: “Lately they have been dropping a lot of bombs with drones. Their drones must not be cheap. Although drones cannot travel as far as aircraft, they have started using drones heavily because they can get closer.”

According to a statement issued on 1 October by the Progressive Karenni People Force (PKPF), a total of 3,444 civilian homes in Karenni State have been damaged or destroyed over more than five years due to the military’s airstrikes, heavy weapons, and drones.
