Kachin Independence Army (KIA) joint forces cleared the junta forces that burned down the Kachin Baptist Church 3 miles from Bhamo in Kachin State on October 17, according to sources close to the front lines.

A person close to the front line said, “We have eliminated all the military council forces that burned the church within those three miles.”

He said that the military recovered more than 20 bodies and captured more than 10 prisoners of war during the operation.

He said some of the military junta's troops had fled and the camp where they were staying had been cleared.

A man close to the KIA said, “Yes, they were able to capture a military council camp. A senior military council member was there. They also captured weapons and ammunition.”

KIA frontline sources said that the Kachin Baptist Church (KBC) and some nearby houses were burned down by the military dictatorship’s 33rd and 88th Divisions on the afternoon of October 12, 2019, 3 miles from Bhamo.

It was also reported that the group was last seen camping in a 3-story house that was burned down.

On the Kone Mahat and Han Te sides of the Bhamo front, the KIA's press and information department reported on the evening of October 18 that the military dictatorship's 47th Battalion, 237th Battalion, and 438th Infantry Brigade launched an attack on the KIA joint forces on October 17, causing fierce fighting.

The fighting is intense as the military is shelling the areas where the fighting took place with heavy weapons and various drones, and the military has been moving across Kachin State in recent days to regain the areas they lost control of.
