The Arakan Army (AA) has fully secured control of Ngapyi Kyunt Island, located at the mouth of the Kaladan River in ( Wirathani) Pauktaw Township, Arakan State, after crushing the forces of the Myanmar military junta.

The military had launched three separate amphibious assault operations against Ngapyi Kyunt Island, deploying significant numbers of troops via a fleet of five to ten naval vessels, including landing craft.

These offensives took place on October 7, 9, and 10.

A local military source confirmed to Narinjara that the junta troops who managed to land on the island were decisively defeated and eliminated during the night of October 14.

"The AA has completely cleared out the military troops that were on the island; not a single one remains. Consequently, heavy aerial bombing has been underway since this morning. Y-12 aircraft and jet fighters have carried out five sorties to attack Ngapyi Kyunt Island," the source stated.

The coup-staging military launched its initial operation against Ngapyi Kyunt Island on October 7, deploying five warships supported by air and naval fire. However, as they attempted to land, they were targeted by AA heavy artillery, which damaged two ships and forced a retreat.

During the second attempt on October 9, a force of approximately 100 regime troops managed to land on the island. This assault was supported by ten naval vessels, including speedboats, as well as air support, naval bombardment, and heavy artillery fire from Shwe Min Gan.

“The enemy junta had reached the vicinity of Alay Wra (Central) village. Intense fighting broke out between junta forces and the Arakan Army on October 10, resulting in casualties on both sides," the source added. "The junta forces held their ground for about two days, but by the third day, they suffered heavy casualties, and some were taken prisoner. Yesterday, they were completely wiped out.”

Military observers confirmed to Narinjara that following this fierce clash, and despite round-the-clock air and naval fire support provided to the junta, the Arakan Army fully regained control of Ngapyi Kyunt Island today, October 15.

A battlefield source told Narinjara that the current Western Command Commander, Brigadier General Kyaw Zaw, committed a massive strategic blunder. The source stated that he lacked a proper understanding of the battlefield situation in Arakan State and failed to accurately evaluate the geography and military significance of Ngapyi Kyunt Island, which is surrounded by the waters of the Kaladan River. This miscalculation resulted in the deaths of hundreds of soldiers, including conscripts.

Ngapyi Kyunt Island is located near the Shwe Min Gan Naval Base in Sittwe. Fierce fighting is currently underway as the AA launches offensives in the areas surrounding Sittwe, including the vicinity of the Regional Military Headquarters (Dakasa) base.
