Other MoA event in Mexico on Tue 6th October 2026

A large-scale deployment of the Armed Forces triggered an intense security operation this Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in the municipality of Tepalcatepec—located in the Tierra Caliente region of Michoacán. Military personnel surrounded a property linked to the organization of Juan José Farías Álvarez, known as "El Abuelo"—an alleged local criminal leader for whom U.S. authorities are offering a multi-million dollar reward. According to reports from the area, members of the Mexican Army and the National Guard secured the perimeter of the property, fueling speculation that a high-priority target may have been apprehended. As of now, federal security agencies have not issued an official statement regarding the outcome of the operation. Potential targets include the capture of Farías Álvarez, one of his immediate family members, or key figures within his inner circle. This operation followed a period of violence that began on Monday, October 5, in Tepalcatepec and municipalities bordering the state of Jalisco. During these clashes and related activities, the following incidents were documented: Gunfire in communities along the border between Michoacán and Jalisco. Roadblocks created by positioning vehicles across thoroughfares. Vehicles set on fire on key regional highways. Aerial patrols conducted by an Armed Forces helicopter over the municipal seat and surrounding localities.
