16th October 2026
Marco Antonio Vargas—identified by capital intelligence authorities as a ringleader and member of the criminal structure of the Tláhuac Cartel—was executed in an armed attack on the streets of the Tláhuac borough in Mexico City. During the assault, gunmen opened fire directly on the vehicle in which the man was traveling with his family. Marco Antonio Vargas died at the scene from gunshot wounds, while his wife—who authorities also identified as having a prior record of incarceration—remained unharmed. However, the couple’s 16-month-old baby was struck by gunfire and sustained serious injuries, necessitating an emergency transfer to a hospital in the capital for specialized medical care. Officers from the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) cordoned off the area in the Tláhuac borough to secure ballistic evidence. Meanwhile, forensic experts and agents from the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office (FGJCDMX) launched an investigation and recovered the body, which was then transported to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO).
