Military column in Yinmabin loots and steals civilians’ motorcycles, vehicles, and food supplies while conducting operations; in Salin, the military drops bombs by drone despite no fighting, damaging houses and religious buildings

Yangon, October 15

Local residents told the Khit Thit News Agency that in Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region, a joint military and Pyu Saw Htee column is conducting operations after looting and stealing more than 20 civilian-owned motorcycles, two vehicles, and rice and cooking oil, forcing around 1,000 residents from five villages to flee to safety.

Residents said that on the morning of October 14, a joint military and Pyu Saw Htee force that departed from Pale entered Tankharin village firing small arms and took away civilian property.

“The column left Pale with three vehicles and motorcycles, drove quickly, and went straight into Tankharin village. They unlawfully took cooking oil, rice, more than 20 motorcycles, and two civilian vehicles from the village. Around midday they returned to Pale carrying the stolen property in vehicles. We also understand that Pyu Saw Htee members were part of the column,” a local source said.

As a result of the military column entering the area, approximately 1,000 residents from Tankharin, Brahmadat, Kyetain, Thayetkan, and Magyikan fled to safe locations.

“They did not arrest any civilians. They only took property, motorcycles, and vehicles, and they did not burn any houses. However, residents from Tankharin, Brahmadat, Kyetain, Thayetkan, and Magyikan had to flee. Some people remained behind. Altogether, around a thousand people from the surrounding villages had to evacuate,” the local source explained.

The military column reportedly withdrew toward Pale via Thayetkan, while some troops and one vehicle continued toward Leinngauk. The column was reported to consist of approximately 60 to 70 personnel.
