Two children aged 1 and 8 killed in a military airstrike on displacement shelters on the border of Paungde and Nattalin townships; military also bombs Ye Township

Yangon, October 15

Local residents told the Khit Thit Media news agency that two children aged 1 and 8 were killed after the military carried out an aerial bombing attack on shelters for internally displaced persons located on the border between Paungde Township and Nattalin Township in Bago Region.

At approximately 2:50 p.m. today, October 15, two paramotor aircraft that had taken off from Division 66 based in Ma-U-Kan Village, Inma Town, dropped six bombs at around 3:00 p.m. on forest huts near Khutgyi Village, where displaced civilians were sheltering.

It is reported that this was a deliberate attack targeting a location where displaced civilians were living despite there being no fighting in the area. As a result of the airstrike, one child aged 8 and another child approximately 1 year old were killed instantly.

In addition, an elderly person was seriously injured and remains in critical condition, with the situation still being closely monitored.

"Two children were killed. One elderly person was injured and is in a critical condition. The bombing targeted the displacement shelters near Khutgyi Village. There was no fighting, and they deliberately targeted the place where displaced people were living. Two paramotors dropped six bombs. We understand that the older child who died was 8 years old. The younger one was only about 1 year old," said a local resident.

Similarly, local news sources reported that the military also carried out a bombing attack in the Ye Chaung Phyar area, on the side of Lu Laung Kyauk Taung, in Ye Township, Mon State.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on October 15, the military reportedly dropped two bombs from two jet fighters on the Ye Chaung Phyar area, on the side of Lu Laung Kyauk Taung in Ye Township. No civilian casualties were reported as a result of that attack.
