Six soldiers killed in attack on temporary military checkpoint camp on the Byatta Panhsat Road in Nyaung-U Township

Yangon, October 15

A responsible official from the Nyaung-U Township People's Defence Team (Pa Ka Pha) told the Khit Thit Media news agency that at least six soldiers were killed when a military checkpoint camp located on the Byatta Panhsat Road in Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region, was attacked.

It is reported that on the morning of 11 October, members of a joint People's Defence Force coalition attacked a military camp that had been temporarily established at a location along the Byatta Panhsat Road in Nyaung-U Township and was manned by around 50 troops. At least six soldiers were killed and at least five others fled the camp.

During the attack, military reinforcements from the junta forces, as well as air support, arrived, forcing the People's Defence Force members to withdraw.

“The camp had about 50 personnel. At least six were killed. About five fled. We were unable to capture the camp. We had to withdraw because air support and military reinforcements arrived. On our side, three comrades were injured,” a responsible official from the Nyaung-U Township People's Defence Team (Pa Ka Pha) told Khit Thit Media.

The operation was reportedly conducted in coordination by the Nyaung-U Township People's Defence Team (Pa Ka Pha), district battalions, and allied groups including Sakarwar PDF and PPGF (Poppa PDF).

As further clashes may continue within Nyaung-U Township, the Nyaung-U Township People's Defence Team (Pa Ka Pha) has urged local civilians to exercise extreme caution when travelling in areas and along roads where junta forces are present.
