Three civilians killed and at least 11 injured in an airstrike carried out by the military using a Y-12 aircraft in Wetlet Township early this morning

Yangon, October 12

A member of the Wetlet Township People's Defence Organization (Pa Ka Pha) told Khit Thit Media that three civilians were killed and at least 11 injured after the military conducted an airstrike using a Y-12 aircraft in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, early this morning.

At around 3:00 a.m. on October 12, a Y-12 aircraft that took off from Tada-U Air Base carried out 13 airstrikes against villages near Ywarthagyi and Hla Taw villages in the western part of Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region. As a result, three male civilians were killed and at least 11 people were injured.

The airstrikes were carried out during the early hours of the morning while residents were asleep. The aircraft primarily bombed Mae Kone and Uyinma villages. The Y-12 repeatedly bombed villages located between Ywarthagyi and Hla Taw villages, dropping three to four bombs during each attack run. As a result of the attacks, three civilians were killed and at least eight injured in Mae Kone village, while at least three civilians were injured in Uyinma village.

"At 3:00 a.m. on October 12, while people were asleep, villages between Ywarthagyi and Hla Taw in Wetlet Township were attacked repeatedly by a Y-12 aircraft that had taken off from Tada-U. During each pass, it dropped around three or four bombs, mainly targeting Mae Kone and Uyinma villages. Three people were killed and at least eight were injured in Mae Kone village. At least three people were also injured in Uyinma village. The bombs were dropped by surprise at a time when the airstrikes had gone quiet at dawn and people were sleeping," a responsible official from the People's Defence Organization said.

It is reported that the total number of casualties and the extent of damage caused by the airstrike are still being assessed.

Revolutionary forces have urged civilians to remain alert to the danger of airstrikes, stating that the military council's forces are increasingly conducting aerial attacks against villages inhabited by civilians even where no fighting is taking place.
