This is again in S. #Hasakah countryside, one of the poorest areas in #Syria, where protesters blocked roads & oil trucks this morning in response to the decision by the Energy Ministry to increase fuel prices. Diesel price saw a massive 40% increase, due to a combination of 2 factors: the international oil crisis & the closure of the aging Baniyas refinery for months. The refinery needs a major overhaul after years of deteriorating technical conditions, forcing Damascus to import more refined oil products. The increase has already triggered higher transportation & bread prices, putting additional pressure on the cost of basic necessities.
