One civilian killed and one injured in military aerial bombing attacks in Mindon and Homalin townships despite no fighting taking place

Yangon, October 13

According to local sources, the military council's forces carried out bombing attacks using paramotors and gyrocopters in Mezali Village, Mindon Township, Magway Region, and Shwe Pyi Aye town, Homalin Township, Sagaing Region, despite there being no fighting in either area. One civilian was killed and a 17-year-old female was injured.

At 11:59 a.m. and 12:04 p.m. on October 12, two paramotors that took off from KaPaSa 12 based in Thayet carried out bombing attacks on Mezali Village, Mindon Township, dropping a total of eight bombs. As a result, a 40-year-old man, Ko Si Thu, was killed and two houses were damaged, Ko Myat, Information and Communications Officer of Thayet District Battalion No. 4, told Khit Thit News Agency.

“The fighting is taking place in the western foothills of the Yoma range in Mindon. Mezali Village is along the Pathein-Monywa road. It is not very far from Mindon town. That is the village they bombed,” said Ko Myat, Information and Communications Officer of Thayet District Battalion No. 4.

Thayet District Battalion No. 4 stated that the military council's forces have been conducting aerial attacks against locations inhabited by civilians that are not military targets within Mindon Township.

Ko Myat also said that paramotors launched from KaPaSa 12 frequently cause civilian casualties and fatalities and urged people to take precautions against the danger of air attacks.

“Currently, most civilian casualties and deaths are caused by the paramotors coming from KaPaSa 12. When paramotors are approaching, their sound is quite noticeable. Therefore, whether it is the sound of a paramotor, an aircraft, or a jet, people should not assume that it will not come to their area. As soon as they hear it, I would like them to take shelter in safe places and open areas. I also want people to dig bomb shelters and communication trenches that can provide protection from bomb attacks,” said Ko Myat.

Similarly, in Shwe Pyi Aye town, Homalin Township, Sagaing Region, the military council's forces carried out bombing attacks for two consecutive days, October 11 and 12, using gyrocopters against the Shan Literature and Culture Office located at the site of the former Par Hlwa Factory, according to a local resistance source. A 17-year-old girl named Ma Thae Thae was injured and the building was damaged.

It is reported that, during those attacks, six gyrocopters that took off from Homalin Air Base dropped three 200-pound bombs, two of which exploded while one failed to detonate.

“The military carried out the bombing attacks despite there being no fighting. Over two consecutive days, six gyrocopters dropped three 200-pound bombs. Two exploded and one did not. The 17-year-old Ma Thae Thae was injured, and the Shan Literature and Culture Office at the former Par Hlwa Factory site was damaged,” a local resistance source said.

It is also reported that on October 4, three gyrocopters that took off from Homalin Air Base dropped two bombs on a gold-dredging operation near Si Pan Creek in Tun Hae Village.

Local sources said that although no civilians were injured in that attack, approximately 40 drums of diesel fuel were destroyed by fire.
