Three civilians shot dead by the military during Kyarinnseikyi fighting; continuous artillery shelling leaves travelers stranded
Yangon, October 14
A local news source told Khit Thit Media that during fighting near Pulin Village in Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State, the military shot and killed three civilians. The military has also continued shelling the area with heavy weapons, leaving civilian travelers stranded.
On October 12, clashes broke out starting in the afternoon between a military column advancing toward the area near the cemetery of Pulin Village and a joint force of the KNLA and allied troops. The clashes reportedly occurred intensely twice that day, once at about 2:20 p.m. and again at 3:35 p.m.
It is understood that the military suffered significant casualties during these clashes and subsequently carried out attacks that also targeted civilians. As a result, one young man from Pulin Village who was fleeing the conflict on a motorcycle, along with two civilian travelers, were hit by gunfire and killed during the fighting.
The military continued indiscriminate shelling with heavy weapons both during and after the clashes. On October 12, from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., it reportedly fired heavy weapons continuously toward the Pulin Village area.
Furthermore, on October 13 and again today, October 14, the military continued artillery attacks toward Pulin Village. Military columns have also remained active in the vicinity of the village, and tensions between resistance forces and the military remain ongoing.
"The people of Pulin Village have all fled the village. Since the day the fighting started, heavy weapons have been fired indiscriminately up to today, and we can still hear bursts of small-arms fire. The military situation remains tense," the local source said.
Due to the fighting, civilian travelers intending to use the Ahbit)-Kyarinnseikyi road remain stranded along the route.
