Mizzima. . Two locals were killed and one injured in an airstrike by the military regime in Chaung U Township, Monywa District, Sagaing Region on the evening of October 2, according to a military source on the ground. A day before the attack, the battalion commander of the Monywa District People’s Defense Force Battalion (15), Lieutenant Colonel (C) Wai Zin Aung, had reportedly reached the military regime.

A military source on the ground said that the commander of Battalion (15) of the (6+1) combined battalion, which is composed of the People's Defense Force battalions (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 15), Pyanpai (B) Wai Zin Aung, arrived at the military regime with about 1.5 million kyats on October 1.

Then, at around 6 pm on October 2, the military regime bombed the area around the camp where he lived, causing casualties among the locals.

“There is a possibility that he could be used to bring in ground troops. The current airstrike resulted in two deaths and one injury,” a ground military source told Mizzima.

The source said the battalion commander was not known to have made many mistakes or had problems with others, and that although he was named battalion commander, he was an outsider who was comfortable with the organization.

A field comrade from the 6+1 Battalion responded to Mizzima's inquiries, saying that while the battalion commander could confirm that he had reached the military regime, he did not know how he had reached it.

“I can confirm that he joined the army, but I can’t confirm whether he joined or was arrested. There are different stories on the ground. It’s true that he took some money with him,” the comrade said.

He added that after the battalion commander reached the military junta, two jet fighters and an Mi-35 helicopter opened fire. There were casualties, but the number could not be confirmed.

Currently, there is no ground offensive, but there are concerns about the safety of the troops due to airstrikes and aerial reconnaissance.

The 6+1 Battalion is a collective battalion, and since only one battalion commander has joined the military regime, the 15th Battalion in Monywa District will continue to exist, said the ground soldier.

Similarly, the news reported that Myat Soe, the head of the People's Defense Organization (PDO) in Gonnyin Seik District, Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region, and his wife arrived at the military regime's headquarters on September 13 with weapons and money.

Then, on September 14, the military regime carried out three bombing attacks using three gyrocopters, forcing residents of nearly 10 villages in the region to flee.
