A school in Fair Oaks has been evacuated after receiving a false bomb threat on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said.

Around 1 p.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office responded to California Montessori School’s American River Campus located at 6838 Kermit Lane, after the school received a bomb threat. The school was immediately put on lockdown while deputies investigated the threat.

Students were dismissed early while deputies searched the campus, the school said in a statement.

Deputies sent bomb dogs to check the campus and did not find any concerning items. The sheriff’s office ultimately deemed the threat a hoax.

“We know this was an unsettling experience for our students, families, and staff, and we’re grateful to the responding officers and our school community for their support,” California Montessori School said in a statement.

California Montessori School serves grades TK through 8th, according to its website.
