On October 8, Army troops detected and destroyed a landmine during routine patrolling in the Balakote forward area of Mendhar subdivision in Poonch District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), reports Greater Kashmir. The landmine was destroyed by a bomb disposal team. Officials said forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) are dotted with landmines as part of the anti-infiltration obstacle system. These mines sometimes get displaced by rainfall and are subsequently detected and destroyed to prevent accidents. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
