On October 6, Security Forces (SFs) unearthed an arms and explosives cache suspected to have been concealed by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in Koparshi Forest along the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border in Gadchiroli District, Maharashtra, reports Free Press Journal and Sanatan Prabhat. Acting on confidential intelligence, Gadchiroli Police deployed five Special Operations Team (SOT) teams and two Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) teams to search the remote forest area. BDDS personnel located and unearthed the buried cache. The recovered items included one .303 rifle, two single-shot rifles, two country-made pistols, one Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL), 10 BGL shells, 21 live cartridges, seven detonators, 150 metres of cable wire, two ammunition magazines, two pressure cookers, three walkie-talkies, three chargers and two walkie-talkie batteries. Police also destroyed Maoist literature and other material found at the site. Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police (SP) M. Ramesh said the Police had identified 575 square kilometres of territory previously under Maoist influence, of which operations had covered 123 square kilometres, with the remaining area targeted for clearance in the coming months. The recovery followed Maharashtra’s reported declaration of freedom from armed Maoist activity, with Gadchiroli District having been declared free of armed Maoist cadres in May. Police said further operations would target remaining areas previously affected by Maoist activity.
