On October 6, Security Forces (SFs) recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, explosives and other material concealed by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the forested and hilly area between Kohkabeda and Burdum villages under Barsoor Police Station limits in Dantewada District, Chhattisgarh, reports The Hindu and Hindustan Times. The joint operation was launched on October 5 on information about Maoist dumps around Manganar, Burdum, Tordma and Kohkabeda villages, involving personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The recovery included one AK-47 rifle, one INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifle, six locally made muzzle-loading guns, one Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL), BGL rounds, 23 AK-47 rounds with a magazine, 138 rounds of .315-bore ammunition, two tiffin bombs, eight cooker bombs, 24 piston rod springs and around 20 metres of codex wire. Other recovered material included two pairs of Maoist uniforms, walkie-talkies, two arrow bombs, a multimeter and two car inverters. Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP) Chandramohan Singh confirmed the recovery. Singh stated that Maoists had looted around 100 firearms from SFs during separate attacks in Dantewada in the past, of which 72 had so far been recovered, including from surrendered Maoists. Search and area-domination operations would continue to locate concealed Maoist weapons and material, Police said.
