Explosive attack wounds six at a police checkpoint in Popayán An explosive device was used Wednesday, October 7, against a police checkpoint in the Alfonso López neighborhood of Popayán, Cauca, near the La Magdalena women’s prison. Preliminary reports say six people were injured: three police officers and three civilians. Witnesses said two men on a motorcycle approached the checkpoint and the passenger threw the device at a patrol vehicle before both fled. The injured were taken to medical centers in Popayán. Authorities cordoned off the area and launched a search for those responsible. Casualty figures remain preliminary and have not been fully confirmed by police.
