SAA event in Mexico on Thu 8th October 2026

Violence continues in Cancún, where three moto-taxi drivers were attacked in separate incidents just hours ago. Initial reports indicated one fatality and one injury. It is worth noting that the drivers' association had previously reported facing extortion and assaults. According to reports, three separate incidents involving moto-taxi drivers occurred in Supermanzanas (neighborhood zones) 235, 251, and 259, prompting calls for authorities to respond to these various locations across the city. Early reports indicate that the first attack took place in the 251 zone—specifically in the Paseos del Mar area—where a moto-taxi driver, allegedly named Rodrigo, was shot while driving along Margaritas Street. The victim, reportedly a leader of the "Estrella Blanca del Caribe" group, sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including injuries to his abdomen and chest. It has been reported that he had previously been involved in a dispute with members of another moto-taxi association, though it remains unclear if this is linked to the attack. Shortly thereafter, another attack on a Cancún moto-taxi driver was reported, this time in Region 235. In this instance, the driver died from gunshot wounds; witnesses stated that the perpetrator fled the scene on a motorcycle, heading in an unknown direction.
