8th October 2026
Guillermo Camacho Ávila, father of Julieta Isamar Camacho García—the mayor of the municipality of Huanusco—died early Thursday morning, October 8, 2026, after being the victim of an armed attack while traveling along Federal Highway 54, on the stretch connecting the municipal seat of Tabasco to Huanusco, Zacatecas. According to official reports from the Zacatecas State Attorney General's Office (FGJE), gunmen intercepted the victim on the aforementioned road and fired at his moving vehicle. As a result of the gunfire, the car sustained at least three bullet holes; this caused Camacho Ávila to lose control of the vehicle and crash in the northern area of the Huanusco municipal seat, opposite the Sports Complex. Following the attack, the victim was transported alive to the "López Orozco" Hospital in the neighboring municipality of Jalpa, where his death was subsequently reported. Although hospital medical staff initially attributed the death to severe hypoxemia and blunt force trauma—leading to early speculation regarding possible cardiac arrest resulting from the accident—the statutory autopsy performed by the General Directorate of Forensic Services confirmed that the definitive cause of death was two gunshot wounds.
