SAA event in Mexico on Sat 10th October 2026

The attack took place around 4:00 p.m. in the Planta y Porvenir neighborhood—known locally as *Barrio La Planta*—when gunmen intercepted a vehicle and opened fire on its occupants. The lifeless bodies of three men were found at the scene, while a woman wounded by gunfire was transported to a local hospital. According to initial lines of investigation by the Oaxaca State Attorney General's Office (FGE), the intended target of the attack was a man nicknamed "El Darío," whom authorities have linked to criminal activities in the Costa region. Preliminary inquiries indicate that Huesca Manzano—who worked as both a journalist and a taxi driver—had arrived at the location in his cab to provide transport services to the individual, identified as a local criminal boss (*jefe de plaza*), when the gunmen launched the armed attack. Although the initial official hypothesis does not directly link the crime to Huesca Manzano's journalistic work, prosecutors will keep the investigation files open to determine liability, establish a motive, and identify the perpetrators. This incident marks the second homicide of a media worker in the state this semester, following the killing of Francisco Alejandro Leyva Aguilar on July 22 in San Pablo Etla. Agents from the State Investigation Agency (AEI) and FGE forensic experts processed the crime scene to collect spent shell casings and ballistic evidence.
