Police confirm: The suspected murderer in Malmö was acquainted with the victim
The woman was attacked with a knife at a grocery shop in Bellevuegården, Malmö, according to witnesses.
She is now dead, the police say, and a man in his 50s has been arrested. According to initial reports to SVT Skåne, the suspected murderer was acquainted with the woman, something the police have now confirmed.
The emergency call came in at around 10 am on Wednesday.
“One person has been injured and taken to hospital by ambulance. Another person has been detained and was arrested near a supermarket,” said Tamara Fuentes, the police press spokesperson.
Yesterday afternoon, it was announced that the woman, who was in her 50s, had died and that her next of kin had been informed. A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
– “I can’t see any other outcome than him being remanded in custody, but it’s unclear when,” says Erik Åberg, head of the Hyllie local police district in Malmö.
Acquaintance of the woman
According to earlier reports to SVT Skåne, the suspected murderer was an acquaintance of the woman. This has now been confirmed by the police.
Can you say what sort of relationship they had?
“That is not something I can comment on at present,” says police officer Erik Åberg.
The prosecutor in the case confirms that a knife was used. Witnesses at the scene who spoke to SVT Nyheter Skåne state that several people reportedly took the knife from the man to stop the attack.
– “They managed to take the knife from the man before the police arrived,” says one witness.
According to the police, this is an isolated incident.
“We are currently interviewing witnesses and carrying out an analysis following the forensic investigation. We also have a police presence at the scene,” says Erik Åberg.
