On 27 September 2021, Turkish army helicopters carried out airstrikes against PKK militants in Geliye Basya, and Gire Sehid Intikam areas (Kurdish names) in Avasin region (Mergasur district) of Erbil. Also on the same day, Turkish forces reported that one PKK militant was killed or injured during the Turkish army airstrikes in 'Claw-Thunderbolt' operation area in Avasin region.
