On 30 September 2021, a mosque was damaged by the explosion of a grenade projectile fired by unidentified assailants in Barangay Poblacion (Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao). There were no casualties. Police said that witnesses saw unidentified assailants firing an M79 grenade launcher toward Barangay Poblacion, the town center. The explosion was also near the local Commission on Elections office, as well as the local police station. Police were investigating whether the attack might have been related to the upcoming elections or a grievance against the police.
