On 26 September 2026, the Malian army claimed to have conducted an airstrike on several gathering points of armed militants (likely JNIM and or FLA, based on the presence of the militant groups in the area and previous similar operations against them in the Abeibara commune) 45km north-east of Abeibara (Abeibara, Abeibara, Kidal). The army stated that several of the militant group's leaders were at the site at the time of the airstrike and claimed the positions were 'precisely targeted' and at least 50 militants, including commanders, 'neutralized' (meaning killed). The army further claimed to have destroyed a large amount of military equipment.
