On 27 September 2026, two drones (suspected to be short-range suicidal drones launched by Alliance for Survival forces) struck and exploded inside the Ethiopian Air Force airbase in Bishoftu/Debre Zeyit, Bishoftu town (East Shewa, Oromia), killing 1 senior helicopter pilot and injuring 2 others, including a technician and a cook. According to sources, there were no casualties from the initial explosion, which triggered an alarm inside the facility and prompted personnel to move the military helicopters from their exposed positions into a hangar. The second drone then exploded at the base, killing the pilot and injuring the two others.
